The Opportunity

  • Interpret ground conditions and understand their impact on design and construction. 
  • Prepare shallow and piled foundation designs, slope stability calculations and seismic assessments. 
  • Carry out temporary support of excavation designs for tunnel shafts and cut and cover tunnels/subway stations. 
  • Carry out temporary and permanent support design for various tunnel construction methods such as drill bast, sequential excavation method, or TBM bored.
  • Conduct ground movement predictions and building damage assessments. 
  • Use and manage subsurface information database systems.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams for delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects for transportation, and water/waster.  
  • Observe construction site works, geotechnical investigation, and the installation of subsurface elements during construction.
  • Prepare desk study reports on sites due for development.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering (with focus on Geotech), or Geological Engineering.
  • Sound knowledge of civil engineering fundamentals, soil, and rock mechanics.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Good communication skills essential for team-based working.  
  • Excellent planning and organization skills required for our fast-paced environment. 
  • Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.  

Preferred

  • 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Evidence of past internship or extracurricular activity in the field.
  • Exposure and interest in programming (Python, Grasshopper, Visual Basic, Leapfrog, etc.)
  • Proven ability to perform in a deadline environment. 
  • History of technical presentations and technical writing.
  • Evidence of personal investment in academic or extracurricular field.  
  • FE / EIT Certification or obtaining.

The good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in Toronto is $17.00 - $32.00 per hour. Benefits are not included in the base salary range. Summary of benefits are included in this posting with details provided to applicants at the time of interview. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Toronto will differ.
